6 Reasons to Watch the All-New Maigret
Learn why the new adaptation of Maigret for MASTERPIECE Mystery! is the detective series deserving your attention now.(dramatic music) - It's A camera.
We'll be with Ben.
I think we should try and shoot it.
3, 2, 1.
- It was a brutal crime, so the reconstruction will be brutal too.
- Does this make it a crime worthy of your attention?
- You've just challenged a killer.
- The Maigret stories were written by Georges Simenon and the character, I believe, was inspired by a real life policeman.
- Our version of Maigret is the first contemporary Maigret in well over 50 years.
- We have phones, we have computers, all the latest technology, like an upgraded version.
- The dynamics between them is they are like a family.
- All of them have desire to do what's right.
- [Patrick] Madame Maigret is going to be more active than any of the past versions.
- She is a psychiatric nurse.
In order to do that job, you need to have a real understanding of the dark places that people can end up.
- [News Reporter] The police have no leads.
The mystery deepens.
- Let's go through what we know so far.
- He's on the side of justice.
And I think he prefers to operate slightly under the radar.
- He's not very keen to communicate what he's doing.
- Frustrating for me sometimes, to work out what he's thinking.
- If you watch Ben during filming, you could almost hear his brain is constantly ticking.
(clock ticking) - I think he really cares about getting the right result, not a result.
- "Comprendre et ne pas juger."
Understand and judge not.
- That underpins everything.
And Maigret really refuses to paint people with the evil brush.
You're getting everything you want out of a detective drama, but you're also getting a lot more emotional depth.
- You see the costs and the weights land on every single person individually.
- Flirty, fast paced, fun.
- And do detective work for you?
- Great dynamics between the Maigret's.
- With a dash of crime.
