Oh, it smells so good when it first comes out of the oven.
I really like pizza.
Oh, and I like stories about pizza.
Once upon a time there was a king.
The king liked many things like reading, and playing checkers but the thing he liked best was eating.

Pepperoni pizza.
Thin crispy crust, sauce, cheese and pepperoni.
Lots and lots of pepperoni.
The king even liked it cold for breakfast.

discovered there was a problem.
The person who made the sauce sent a note that said she had run out of tomatoes and couldn't make any more sauce.
And what was worse, the cheese maker sent a note saying that the milk had gone sour and they couldn't make any more cheese.
And what was even worse, the butcher who supplied the pepperoni sent a note saying there was no pepperoni left anywhere in the kingdom.
There was only the dough for the crust.
And a few odds and ends lying around on the kitchen shelf.

He was glad to learn that there are many other foods that taste just as good as pepperoni pizza.
He was also interested to know that eating a bunch of different kinds of foods is much healthier than eating only one thing all the time.
In fact he gave me this medal.
By now you probably want to know how I made pepperoni pizza without any sauce, cheese or pepperoni.
Well that's my little secret, but if you use your imagination I'll bet you can think of your own recipe.

But you know, sometimes we can have difficulty making mealtime a positive experience.
We find it becomes easy to make non-nutritious foods the only fun food there is.
Today on Parent's Corner we have Brenda Speight, a registered dietician to talk about ways we can make healthy foods more appealing to our children.
Would you like to make mealtime a happier time for you and your children?
Let's talk about it now.
Let's begin by remembering three key points, balance, variety and moderation.
When we speak about balance we want to remember the food guide pyramid.
The food guide pyramid helps us to plan all the important foods that our children need at each of their different meals.
Let's also remember variety.
You know, they say variety is the spice of life.
The first point in variety is color.
Children love color very much and their food will be much more appealing to them if we have variety in color.
A red apple, green beans and golden yellow corn.
Let's also talk about texture.
A child likes to feel different kinds of things in their mouth, lumpy, crunchy and smooth.
The third area in variety is flavor.
What more than if your food tastes good to you with sweet, maybe a little sour and also a bitter flavor.
All of those components in variety will make your child's meal much, much more appealing.
Our last area of course is moderation.
Now do you think we're talking about putting your children on a diet?
No.
No child should really be dieting now.
They're growing so they need all of the food that they possibly can have in the right amounts.
Imagine a two or a three year old eating from an adult sized plate.
Very large with large portions.
It could be very overwhelming.
What about a child sized plate.
That seems better with smaller portions, maybe teaspoon sizes.
That way your child will eat all of the food up at each mealtime.
Always remember when you are planning meals for your children those three key components.
Balance, variety and moderation.
Well, that's about all the time we have for today, so friends until next time, have fun with food.
So long.
