I like the puppy dog face.
I thought it was cute, and it made me smile, so I hung onto it.
APPRAISER: This is a classic example of Weller Pottery made in Zanesville, Ohio.
The design is very typical of Weller made around 1905.
There were a few artists who did that incising technique.
I can't tell you which one because he didn't sign it.
We can look.
There's nothing on the back.
But it's a handsome dog.
And you named George.
(chuckles) GUEST: George.
APPRAISER: That's great.
The sad part is this market has taken a big hit since 2008 when the economy took a dive.
30, 40 years ago, this piece might have been worth $2,000 to $3,000 because of an animal portrait.
GUEST: Okay.
APPRAISER: Today it's more likely in the $500 to $700 range.
GUEST: George will be very happy knowing where he's from.
